Alfiniti draws seamless 6061 aluminum tube to AMS-WW-T-700-6 in the O, T4, T42, T6, T62 and F tempers, from 0.188″ to 4.775″ OD with a minimum wall of 0.030″, on 13 draw benches across Winton, North Carolina and Chicoutimi, Quebec.
The chemical composition and mechanical property tables for the specification are below, along with the heat treatment response you can expect from each temper.
Alloy and temper designations are in compliance with the latest version of ANSI H35.1.
Tolerances for the tubes we supply are shown in the tolerance tables and are in compliance with the latest revision of ANSI H35.2 and Aluminum Standards and Data.

Alfiniti manufactures the aluminum it then cuts, forms, machines and finishes, so tube drawn to this specification can move straight into secondary operations without a second supplier.

Heat Treatment Response by Temper
Materials with O and F tempers develop properties specified for the T42 temper without imposition of cold work or forming operations after proper heat treatment and natural aging. Materials in the T4 and T6 tempers are heat treatable to properties specified for the T42 temper without the subsequent imposition of cold work or forming operations. Tubes in the T42 temper are precipitation heat treatable to properties specified for the T62 temper.

1 Round tube 2 inches or less in outside diameter and square tube 1-1/2 inches or less on a side shall be tested in full section unless the limitations of the testing machine preclude the use of such a specimen. For round tube over 2 inches in diameter, for square tube over 1-1/2 inches on a side, for all sizes of tube other than round or square, or in those cases when a full section specimen cannot be used, a cut-out specimen shall be used. D represents diameter of cut-out specimen.

Where to Get the Full Standards
- A complete copy of this specification may be purchased at www.ASTM.org
- A copy of ANSI H35.1 and H35.2 is available from the American National Standards Institute at www.ansi.org
- A copy of the Aluminum Standards and Data is available from the Aluminum Association at www.aluminum.org
Why it matters:
Temper choice drives the trade-off. O temper draws and forms easily but tops out at 22.0 ksi tensile. T6 delivers 42.0 ksi minimum tensile and 35.0 ksi yield, with elongation down to 10 percent in thin wall. T42 and T62 are not available from the materials producers, so those properties have to be developed by heat treating O, F, T4 or T6 material.
Calling out AMS-WW-T-700-6 with a temper, wall and OD settles composition, strength and elongation in one line on the purchase order, with tolerances handled separately under ANSI H35.2.
Alfiniti can help:
Tell us the temper, wall and OD you need. We draw the tube, hold the specification, and take it through cutting, forming, machining, joining and finishing in house, so one source covers material and secondary operations.
